Quit Whining! Let the coaches coach!

Funny...but a bit harsh. Some of these guys are working very hard to keep the VN informed.

This is one of the reasons I try not to get too wrapped up in the recruiting world. Hell, the season itself is stressful enough. It is a long way to February, and I swear I thought Rex's head was going to explode at one point last December.

Why are you so convinced that they are taking 2 high school kids this year? If the class is so bad, maybe they'll only take one high schooler. Lamaison is a lock.

I said sometime back that they may only take 1 HS kid with Lamaison coming to UT. Now that I think about it though, Rozier probably won't be here next year, mainly because he's not going to be a big help from what I have heard, so then your stuck with 2 QB's on the roster for 2010, and that's saying Lamaison will be here. So, if we don't take 2 QB's we might be in big trouble come next year. Rozier may very well stay, but it's not likely from what I know.

Once again, why offer this late if they didn't believe that?? See, that's what's most confusing because it seems that they were playing damage control with him by offering him that late. Also, Tommy Rees was offered by him and I think that might have sealed the deal with Rettig going to BC. Rettig has been said to be one of the top guys in this year's class without having a big ranking. So, if your not taking the top guys, then why are we offering?? The only top guy we have a shot with right now is Scroggins, and he's piggy backing USC by all accounts so that doesn't seem realistic either.

You offer when your comfortable...maybe at that point they decided they saw something they liked. You wait when you aren't blown away.

I know, and I do appreciate the info. My grandfather also used to put his foot in my butt when i need a dose of reality. I just figured I would use a little humor to take the edge off the dreariness around here.

So, offer a kid that hasn't been on the national radar very much before you offer a kid that has gotten praised on the camp circuit pretty much everywhere he went. That just doesn't make sense to me, but oh well.

2010 depth chart:

Stephens
Lamaison
Freshman

It's definitely not a great position to be in, but I could see them only signing one high schooler this year.

That really takes us back to LWS...and his assertion that they haven't really found their man yet. If there is no real difference in performance to the naked eye...it doesn't matter all that much. There is little or no risk involved.

Maybe we offerred Grayson today...we really don't know. We don't even know if we lost Scroggins yet. Lets continue this discussion when this is final.

You really can't even include a freshman. They won't play early, and will be RS more than likely so that way we don't use up any eligibility before we actually have to.

I think the other problem here is people don't need to get so hung up on player ratings and coaches need to let the premadonnas go elsewhere and quit catering to their egos. With the new recruiting limits players are commiting early and some coaches just aren't going to wait. Alot of articles have showed how players who were rated high in HS did nothing in college. At UA we had Gary Peters high on our boards and for the most part we were is overall leader stated by him. Apparantly he didn't want to make a commitment early, which is fine, than at camp D Belue came in with no rating yet and impressed the coaches. We offered and got a commit from D Belue and now Peters says his leader is Clemson. Would we like to have Peters yes but there are to many players out there that can compete. Ratings mean nothing. Coaches should take players that want to be at the school and the player that fit into the system.

With regards to Scroggins I still think this a mute point and that Kiffin has this all planned out, but if he doesn't get Scroggins I think he did drop the ball on Rettig. Who knows which one is going to be better in college, even the experts can't answer that. The one thing I do believe if UT would have went after him like they did Scroggins he would be a Vol and all this press conference crap would be a mute point. Remember take the players that want to be there first.

The only risk you run is trying to flip someone later. I know we will get a QB, but I don't think that it will "be their guy". I think they will probably settle for someone that they can work with and that's smart. Coachability and Football IQ are two of the 3 things that I look for in a prospect. I know that whoever it is, will probably be overrecruited anyways, but being in scramble mode doesn't make things look good to other recruits as well.

Remember John Parker Wilson was not one of the best QBs we have had at UA, atleast in great talent. But he could manage games well and still broke about every QB record at UA. Great coaches can get alot of a player. You don't need a 5 star QB to win, just a QB with potential that the coaches can mold in their system and a desire with passion to be a part of your program.

If you can't include a freshman, then why sign 2? The 2011 guys are supposed to be better anyway.

The thing that pisses me off is the fact that this whole QB deal is screwing up our chances with other elite blue-chippers. If I'm a playmaker, theres no way I go to Tennessee until they get big time QBs.

That bothered Brown, richardson, and Oku!

No risk if you think that Mason or Grayson or Shreve have as much upside to begin with.

If we are going to rely on a freshman QB, we probably won't have much success. As far as signing 2, it's about depth if you have injuries. I don't want those guys to come in and start with no experience in this league. Will they start at some point, if they do we will have a long season next year.

I agree, but Mason was ready to commit to Iowa just recently. I think Grayson could be pretty decent, but he's not all world. I don't know that much about Shreve really.

Depth is obviously an issue. The fact of the matter is that our QB play will have to be masked in 2011 and maybe even 2010. The bright side is that Kiffin has a history of masking terrible QBs. See Jamarcus Russell.

Grayson is the most talented but not polished QB I see on the board after Scroggins(not including jucos and commtited guys). Mason is polished but not very gifted. JMO

I do not know which the coaches value more.:dunno:

That's not a very good example, mainly because people will be quick to point out records on that one. We can't rely on that either, because it makes us one dimensional.

I would take Grayson easily if thats the case

At this point, the coaches haven't done what they set out to do and secure a QB. They are going to have to work the circuit hard this fall. It's going to be a bumpy ride with other recruits, until they can "find their guy".

One dimensional would be an improvement on last year's offense. Actually, it's been a LONG time since I can remember TN having anything more than a one dimensional offense.

We did well the last year Ainge was here on both sides of the ball, for the most part.
