Open Letter to Scotty Hopson

Hopson just came off his sophomore season. His freshman year, it was apparent his jump-shot had way too much arc. So in his first off-season, he worked on that. And his jumper was much improved.

One would think that in this, his second off-season, he'd be working on his ball-handling. And his brief history would indicate that if so, it would be improved. So anyone who said he and his coaches haven't put in any work to get better or mistaken at the least. If his dribbling isn't improved, then that's a problem.

Clutch-itude? I recall at least two games he won or put away in the closing seconds, and it didn't take much thought on my part. And he was just a sophomore on a team with great senior leaders.

And nobody knows how much fire he has except himself. You can't judge that by his facial expressions. Barry Sanders never showed emotion... just think how good he coulda been if he'd had some fire, huh?

His inner-fire is evident.

Comparing his sulking to Barry Sanders is crazy.

Explain why? One guy doesn't show emotion, he's not trying. Another guy doesn't, and comparing them is crazy? I'm not comparing their ability, I'm pointing out that you cannot judge someone's effort by their facial expressions or body language. If you disagree, back up your opinion please.

My opinion is Scotty wears his emotions on his sleeve.

You can take one look at him and see whether he's hitting shots or not.

He's soft. Mentally and physically. And the drive is just not there.

Barry Sanders played for the Lions. Hard to have any "fire" playing for Detroit.
However, Barry performed and put up numbers nearly every game. If he got tackled behind the line or fumbled, he did not go in the tank.

Comparing Scotty to Barry Sanders is akin to comparing Lang Wiseman to Joe Montana.

So a poster can criticize or share his opinion on a coach's style of coaching.

But if a poster shares his thoughts or criticism's on a Player's style of play he is automatically a Message Board Coach?

I think I will change my screen name to MessageBoardCoach

You called him out in an open letter. Some encouragement. Kid knows what he needs to work on. And if he wasn't doing it, this "nice" letter wouldn't make him. Stick to cheering, leave the coaching to the professionals.

I deeply apologize Mr Kush that my opinion I shared on an open Message Board offended you so. Had I known in advance the repurcussions my post would have caused you, I assure you I would have refrained from posting. I type this with tears in my eyes knowing how I have hurt you. :cray:
With Deepest Regrets,

PS: Go Vols and Go Scotty.

No apology necesary to me bub, save your "breath". I bet Scotty and his teammates would have something to say about his "fire and passion". No production doesn't always mean no effort.

Little things like just refusing to contest a 3 point shooter with a Final Four on the line, however, does mean no effort.

If the consistent effort was there, he would already be in the NBA. Talent is not the problem, consistent effort is.

What player doesn't exhibit the effort you described on a play or two during a game, tho? Any level, any league, guys "take a play or two off" No one teaches them to do so. Its human nature. You show me a player that gives max effort on every step up and down the floor and ill show you a robot. Come on now.

Show me a "good player" that takes off a play that costs his team a chance at going to a Final Four. You won't find one.

There are some absurd posters on here.

Yeah, I mean who could ever expect a player to work to improve more than one aspect of his game at a time. This is the Barry Sanders of basketball we are talking about here, and he is only a soph. You can see the fire burning in his eyes everytime he misses a defensive assignment. And let me tell you something, that is a whole ****-ton of fire.

LULZ.

I stand corrected. I never noticed the passion and fire when he is moping around or getting stuffed on a dunk attempt by a midget. I will have to pay more attention to Scotty "The Barry" Hopson.

On the real - This kid could be a monster. Could dominate. I'm hoping and waiting to see it.

And anybody who thinks Scotty Hopson has fire and drive are as blind as Helen Keller or just refuses to believe reality.

And any1 who thinks a coach with BP's record (career) consistently plays (starts) a kid who give minimal effort is an idiot. =) Not everyone "slaps the floor" , coach K.

Rah-rah stuff is for chumps.

Contesting shots should not have to be an issue for Mc0's AA.

BP did bench him. Remember at Florida this year? That did a lot of good.

Also for those who thinks Scotty doesn't show any emotion, does nobody ever remember him screaming after big dunks? I can remember five dunks he has screamed and showed plenty of emotion. This whole "Maybe he just doesn't show emotion kinda player" is crap.
