Petrino on the UT Game

I don't believe UK could beat AP 42-0 in an entire 4 qtrs, much less in one half. After watching their sloppy play, it was like watching UT last year. They were not prepared to play a game, no matter who the opponent was.

UK's offense must have been fun to watch then. We could use those types of playmakers.

He gets 3 years and I will support him every moment. My confidence simply won't be very high concerning his ability or survival if he wins six or less this year.

Fumbles happen but coaches have the ability to coach ball security. That looked good except for Hill.

I promise you that General Neyland was a great coach and he still had players that fumbled. Just sayin. Again, I don't think we have to worry about.

I do. I think the drop off in the secondary from our 1s to 2s is scary and Petrino knows how to exploit that. Keep in mind, his recruiting classes are Arky were full of 3* talent, and he went 10-3 and 11-2 in his last two years there. He knows how to get more out of less better than anybody. I mean, if we're playing walk ons on our secondary, how much worse can you get?? Don't think we'll lose, but I bet its closer than most think.

If it is as close as you say it will be, we should of hired Petrino. A win by 2 touchdowns minimum is what we should expect from CBJ in this game. Anything less, we will get killed by the big boys on our schedule.

Saying Dooley stepped into a better situation is ludicrous. Do you remember the offensive line? Do you remember the defensive line? Rogers and Hunter were unproven. No qb on the roster had any experience except Stevens, and he transferred before the season started. Dooley stepped into An awful situation. Jones is in a much better position to succeed.

That is correct. As I remember it both CBJ and the AD said that Dooley had laid the ground work to rebuild a depleted roster. I think CBJ is a much better on the field coach. I also think this team is in much better shape physically! May not be a great year but will keep it close to some teams where not supposed too.

Poorly? He was triple teamed most of his limited time in the game. Dan is a 3 down guy, and he only had 4 plays before the score was 14-0, 7 plays before it was 21-0 and 11 plays the first quarter. AP moved the ball well when he sat in the 2nd quarter as evinced by their drive to a FG attempt. He was inserted when they were at the 14 and he pressured the QB every time. His total number of plays for the 2nd quarter was only 7, and for the game, 18.

After the first play, AP did not run the ball anywhere near him. He also never saw action the second half.

He makes the rest of the team better by freeing them up. Several plays, against the spread, he was the lone interior lineman and he was enough. Dan played well.

I think many of those concerned about the Worley performance may be confusing some of Peterman's throws with Worley. 3 throws were not dead on, and only 2 misses. Not bad. Peterman was throwing behind the receiver most of the time.

Just my .02 worth after watching the replay closely.
Dan never faced a triple team and I counted three double teams in the first half. He won 5 one v ones and was handled on the rest. Didn't watch the second half again as I assumed he sat. The coaches have said they want more out of him. HE had two QB hurries and a tackle against AP. He should have ragdolled those guys.

Petrino was not an option for UT or any other SEC team. Has to pay penance first.

If Petrino wins this game, then he should have been the coach we hired. With that said, I believe Butch Jones and company get it done!

Basing validity of the hire on the results of one game?

Seems legit.

I expect to see some plays that are specifically designed to take advantage of our younger defensive backs. Maybe crossing patterns, etc. etc.

Petrino would love to beat us and make a name for himself. Imagine him beating Kentucky in an away game. Then the following week beating Tennessee in an away game.

This would get him alot of attention and possibly a job opportunity, once the season ends. I doudt that Petrino wants to stay in Bowling Green, Kentucky very long.

I doubt it. It's a great place for him to ride his motorcycle with coeds drunk and nobody care! Even if he crashes!

Tennessee buries this loser once and for all!

Always been a big believer in getting the W and forgetting the score.

But it would be so nice to just curb stomp this team right before they go play their Sun Belt buddies.

YES! :aggressive: :aggressive: :aggressive: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Much, and VN will have a very different attitude come Sunday

If this games is close then rivals rankings over the past 4 years are a joke and bUTch is much worse of a coach than we all expected.

Having said that I don't think we give them a breath and beat them by 21 or more!

But what's the price to tea in China?

Nothing on this team is proven, except for a middle linebacker, one safety, the offensive line, and maybe one DT.
You are trying so hard that you are becoming ridiculous. The talent now vs the talent then is relevant... and there is a significant advantage in every group except WR.

If you wanted to replay one of the previous three seasons and insert Butch as the HC, I think you'd see better results.
Then why are you arguing with me? This is a better roster than either of Dooley's first two years. He won 6 the first year and 5 the second year. IMHO, a competent HC and DC would ahve competed for the East if not the SEC with last year's roster.

But the truth is that this is a different team with a different schedule.
True. That team played the 5 East opponents, Bama, LSU, and Ole Miss. They played Oregon and 3 chumps OOC. This year they trade Aub for Ole Miss and Mizzou for LSU. You could say that WKU is better than the 3 OOC chumps in '10 I suppose. Otherwise... that schedule is harder.

To make a blanket statement by saying Butch should win at least seven games because Dooley won six his first season is ridiculous.

No it isn't. It is applying a consistent standard without regard to the person. Nothing ridiculous about that at all.

If you want to claim the schedules are equal then a better coach plus a better roster should yield a better result. That is not difficult reasoning... much less ridiculous.

All you did was make a "blanket statement" without offering any real rebuttal of what I pointed out. I certainly want Jones to be successful. But you need to realize that underperforming with this roster will be a bad sign AND will make it difficult for him to hold on to the job. After this year, he has at least one year of REAL rebuilding to do before being competitive again... and maybe two. If he's 500 or under at the end of year 3... there's almost zero chance he survives.

So when do you apply any sort of standard? How many passes do you give? Or are you one of those who in a year or two will have an emotional reaction when you figure out things are not going like you'd hoped?

Lay your expectations out in advance. I have. Why not REASON your expectations rather than waiting to be swept away by anger and disappointment?

Yes. It will be a strong indication that Jones is the wrong guy. As I said earlier, I see absolutely no reason to have a different expectation for this game with Jones as UT's HC as we would if Petrino was UT's HC. If Petrino were the HC... most of those talking "close game" would be expecting a 3 TD win. If Jones is "the guy" then he has to be as good as Petrino.... Saban... Meyer... et al. If not then we either accept being second class or accept that he will be replaced within 3 or 4 years.

UT wins by 10-14. Won't be as "close" as the score indicates. JMO.

WKU COULD pull an upset, but I don't see it happening.

VN will never give Petrino credit for keeping it close. The hatred for him is too strong. Instead we will be treated to an endless parade of threads declaring our guys got caught looking ahead to Oregon or that our depth issues are worse than we thought.

Bobby P gets tons of respect.

Hopefully Butch can release the assistant coaches by the middle of the second quarter so they can prep for OR.

No... it is neither a "stir the pot" nor is it ignorant.

Petrino is a top tier coach. He has made bad teams good ON THIS LEVEL. I only disagree with Oskie in that Jones may already be a top tier coach waiting to be revealed as such. If he might "become" a top tier coach... it probably won't be at UT. He doesn't have that long of a leash.

Damn..... you're a cup half empty guy aren't you? I'm sure the first thought you had when I said that was "no I'm a realist" or some variation of such. Butch Jones has won championships 4 out of 6 years at every level he's coached. Yes! I know that he hasn't coached at the SEC level blah blah blah. But neither has he had the resources or the facilities that he has to work with now. Or access the SEC level talent. And that my friend is what makes the SEC great. I was never worried about CBJ with regard to program, execution or Xes and Oes. I was concerned about recruiting because that can be challenging at UT from a geographic perspective. There is NOTHING in his resume or in his first 8 months on the job to give anybody any reason to doubt he will be successful at UT (And I am talking about East and SEC championships). Until there is reason to believe otherwise I will believe he is every bit the coach as any of his contemporaries (except maybe Saban). There is no data to believe any other way... unless of course you're a cup half empty kind of guy:) :peace2:

I am in the minority here but I am glad we are concerned about WKU. Good to see some of us are being realistic about the season. There will be bumps along the road.
