Shaka Smart Not Interested in TN Job And is Willing to Wait for "Perfect Job"

Bruce Pearl claimed to have no interest in the Arizona or Memphis job, even went as far as to say that he turned one (or both, I can't remember) down. He was never a candidate for either job.

Oh we have here someone with special knowledge. Sure you know this for a fact. Bulls---. So how much are you going to offer our next coach, Mike.

UT is trying to find the most successful coach they can to run the bball program and most see Smart as not quite ready (or not enough info). I would rather look at his body of work over the last 2 years than focus on 3 games.

No they are not trying to find the most successful coach they can to run the BBprogram. Their trying to find a cheap coach that want make them look too bad. If they were willing to spend the money, they would have no problem finding a coach with a great resume. Most coaches can be bought.

You can produce several articles that say Pearl was offered the Memphis job?

I think it is safe to say that Pearl was not offered the Memphis job. That is not to say that he was not considered for the job or that Pearl's agent was not contacted. These are things no one knows except the interested parties. If memory serves me right Pearl got a raise, so UT thought that Memphis was interested.

I haven't heard anyone say we can't fill Bruce Pearl's shoes. Whether YOU want to admit it or not, it's going to be tougher than YOU think to do it. Certainly there are plenty of coaches out there AT LEAST as good as Pearl from an Xs and Os standpoint, but very few who will invigorate the program in the manner in which Pearl did from a PR standpoint. Those things are important too. Pearl did his thing for the new facilities, so that area isn't nearly as important now, but you better believe we need someone who will embrace the UT traditions as comfortably as Pearl. JMO

What I don't understand is why these Pearl haters claim too be UT BB fans. There is something wrong with people who can't admit what Pearl did for UT BB. I have to suspect they are posers from KY, AL etc.

:eek:lol: I'm hearing the name of the basketball arena will soon be renamed Pearl's Crib.

It seems like a lot of UT fans put on their blue/powder blue in February and march prior to pearl's first season.

With no inside knowledge other than what I have read here on the Great VolNation -

There is a question whether he is a good coach or is just reaping the benefits from the recruiting done by his predecessor - Anthony Grant - now at Alabama & another potential candidate.

He's a flavor of the moment guy... He could be great, but only two of the tourney wins so far were over single seed teams, one was over G'Town who was likely very overrated as the rest of the Big East was, the other was over Purdue who may have been overseeded, but was a terrible matchup against VCU.

If VCU plays a solid game against KU, then I will start buying him.

Don't understand all the dislike for Shaka, he is a winner, period. What am I missing?

It's not that he doesn't have potential, it's that he's unproven. He's doing this with Grant's recruits, and he didn't even do it particularly well during the season. Two great weeks in March shouldn't jump you to the front of the line.

People, it's pretty simple. There will be misinformation about coaches still coaching. Of course Smart isn't interested - his team is still playing. And of course UT will deny any contact with a coach or reps for a guy still in the tourney.

I'm not confident right now with the current selection of available coaches. I know some people may think Rockytop is not a great catch for a B-ball coach, but I disagree. With only two major threats every year (UK & UF), a great coach could really dominate the SEC at UT. Just my opinion.

South Carolina is the only one of those that is a cake walk. Mark Fox is doing great things in Athens and Stallings is a solid coach, at least during the regular season. Georgia is on the way up.

Not bashing or anything. I have a serious question.

What is the deal with all the Duke and North carolina UT fans on this board?

In general, I'm not sure and I think a lot of UT football fans were UNC basketball fans when Tennessee basketball sucked.

With me, it's because I've been a Tennessee fan for years but I go to a different school.
