Tyler Bray still undrafted (merged)

Couldn't agree more.

It's one thing to see it happen and point out reasons why. But gloating about it is a sign that you might suck at life.

I do not see anyone gloating about this and personally I am not happy to see a UT kid do poorly since that has always been my team. But it is just like I tell my own kid when she fails. You get out of it just what you put into it. I had to learn that lesson just like everyone else.

If Bray and Rogers had worked hard and made the 1st round we would all be on that bandwagon too.

Well, there's the film of Tyler Bray telling John Gruden that he would rate himself as a 7 or 8 on a scale of 10 for game preparation.

So basically he gave himself an "average" grade in that area. Give me a freaking break man. Should he have just lied to Gruden's face and just said 10's across the board?

What the hell kind of evidence do you have that this is the case? With his buffoon of a coach, and that swiss cheese defense, it didn't matter how hard he worked, he wasn't ever going to be successful (from a W/L standpoint) while he was at UT.

Have you watched or read anything about the TN football program the 3 years?

If so I don'tunderstand how you could ask such a question.

Anyone hating on Tyler needs to stfu now...

Compare this to you winning the lottery and walking out of your house someone robs you and takes the ticket....

I blame it on the dumba$$ Analyst, whispering in his ear he was a 2nd round draft pick then slandering him every chance they got.

I blame it on Tyler Bray, what a novel idea. Guy was overrated and apparently the experts have confirmed this. Not worthy of a pick. Jon Crompton says hello.

At the time, UT wasn't in any sort of desperate need at the QB position. They had Crompton, Stephens and Coleman. When Kiffin took the job it was reasonable to think they could wait a year and get the right guy. I still think Kiffin did right by Boyd by telling him upfront that he absolutely would not be playing QB at UT and giving him the opportunity to find a place where he could if that's what he really wanted.

Ok bud. He got rid of Coleman and Stephens so he signs no one. I understand doing the best for the kid but he still didn't replace him and then left a yr later. Leaving his replacement with no one that had been on campus. Yet people blame the replacement for not being able get the program straight in less than 3 seasons. Just ridiculous.

It doesnt take a genius to see it. The way he talked, carried himself on the field, numerous blowups with the Coach's during games. I do blame the Coach's for allowing it to continually happen but in the end he is his own person and just grit and bear it. Will say it again, if he would have stayed and learned from the new staff it would have helped him immensely. I think Bray was counted on too much from the staff, which was evident from the playcalling. I really hope he and the rest of the players with NFL potential have great careeers and truely see how little help they got from Dooley and his staff. Truely feel sorry for having to deal with that POS Coach. But its over now and we have a Coach who will make guys accountable for their actions on and off the field, but will also be treated the way they should be and will get the coaching they deserve when they decided to become Vols!

Obviously the NFL scouts feel Bray wasn't all he was cracked up to be. Bray has a very strong arm and pretty quick release but everyone laid off drafting him for some reason....I never thought he had the burning desire to win like many previous Vol QB's....over the years I've seen many QB's at UT with less talent but much more heart and true will to win...many were very good leaders and had good command of the team....not Bray. None the less I wish the young man the best and hope someone at least gives him a shot at playing in the NFL.

Stay classy. Always funny to see people who take pleasure in people's dreams being crushed.

Although it was prob not the thing to say.....he had a good point....his dreams were crushed bc he did not work hard and earn it, they were not taken away....its the truth.....he will sign a free agent deal....he has all the talent in the world....just gotta get the drive....

It's nothing but a bunch of BS rumors and speculation. None of us really know or will ever know the full story. I sure as hell don't believe a single word that came out of Dooley's mouth.

True and I agree. But let's be honest bud who was he going to play??? Seriously...think about it. If you can tell me a name with a straight face I'll give u credit but still laugh at u.

Don't you think another HC or OC would have held him more accountable for his actions on and off the field?

Obviously not Sal Sunseri

Dude you are like the champion of excuses. He did not get drafted, because the experts said no. A lot of us Vol fans you do not like to listen to, that can make an evaluation of a player, even if he play for TN have been telling people like you this all freaking year.

Don't act surprised that this is an issue. ESPN played that section of Gruden's QB Camp during the draft today, and there was discussion about this very quote.

The issue is more that Bray DID only give a 7 or 8 on a scale of 10 for preparation. When NFL scouts and GM's break down his tape, that fact is obvious because he doesn't show the ability to read defenses well. Gruden pointed that out. Bray needed another year in college to work on a number of things. It is nobody's fault other than Bray that he elected to forgo his final year of eligibility.

Having said that, Tyler Bray does have a ton of physical talent. If he gets an opportunity in a camp somewhere and he actually adjusts his work ethic and attitude and absorbs the coaching like a sponge, he does have the talent to succeed in the NFL.

Yes the kid has an attitude problem but he is 21 years old. For somebody to dog the guy is disrespectful and sad.

You try having to throw 3-5 tds a game just to stay in the game and you tell me how many poor decisions you make.

He isn't just any 21 yo kid he is the QB at UT. If u can handle that than gtfo.

3-5 Tds for a QB at UT shouldn't be a problem man. Do you not watch CFB cause 3-5 Tds for any college QB should be done with ease.

Well Said .

Very well said, this is the reason. It is okay for Vol fans to say this, stop making excuses. Just accept it...Tyler Bray is overrated and he has issues and this time the experts agree.

As to your first point, it's easy to understand the blowups with the coaching staff, because it was easy to sit there in the stadium and see how royally that staff was screwing those players due to the staff's utter incompetence.

Secondly, I don't think another year here does him any good. It's just a square peg in a round hole situation. There are really two ways that could play out. One, Jones could try and force Bray into his spread option system, which would without a doubt be a disaster for all involved. Second, he could try and hold off on the option for a year, to accommodate Bray. This would most likely be better than the first option, but how much development is Bray really going to get from a guy who has nothing to do with that style of offense? Meanwhile, Jones wastes a year of growing pains into the option system and we have to go through all that crap in 2014. We're best to get as much of that out of the way this year IMO, because regardless of what style of offense we run, this year is going to be pretty awful. It seems to me like UT and Tyler Bray parted ways at the best time for both sides.

Having a losing record might have something to do with it. Or maybe it's the off the field issues.

Or maybe it was his antics on the field. Or maybe it was that he looked disinterested in some games. Or maybe it is because he is narcissistic enough to get his name in porn fashion across his back. Or maybe it is because he seems as though he lacks passion for the game.

I am sure his skill intrigued scouts but his interviews probably destroyed any chance, especially when you consider all of the above.

In Brays case., it does not.

He did not put in the effort and hard work to be successful

I do feel sorry for Zack Rogers. He worked his butt off and had a good senior year.

I know he had a lot of natural talent, but a guy doesn't just loaf all week and show up on gameday and put up stats like Bray had last year.

He might not have been the best he could be, but I'm not sure he was the complete loser that he's being painted as.

Dooley and his coaching staff were and will continue to be some of the biggest disgraces in the football program's history. By the time that whole situation played out, I no problem with a player showing them up on the field or trying to shame them. It's not Upward Sports, it's adult men coached other adult (albeit younger) men and respect is earned not simply given based upon age.

Agreed. I will admit Dooley had me fooled on his Press Conference when he was hired. It really sux that the players had 3 yrs of that idiot and all the stuff about Dooley that has come out since he left. We are lucky a guy like CBJ would accept the job after the crap Dooley left and did his best to bury us in a short, but long 3 yrs. I believe after the UF game this year he knew that he was in over his head and had an idea he wouldnt be back. Just the way the HS Coach's mentioned him and lack of effort from him lws me to thinking that. But now I do believe we got the right guy and am really glad to have him. He is a genuine guy and wants to be here and obviously the players, former players, recruits and family really like him as well. I know we're a few yrs away but things are finally going the right direction! V, B!
