What's best for the future of UT football: Dooley teams win or... (merged)

Yeah, we all bought in. I'm not afraid to admit it, but I was wrong in what he was all about. VERY WRONG!!
I bet that if you're really honest about it, you always knew exactly what he was all about. You just hoped like I did that the program would be turned around before he did what coaches like that always do.

Hoping a guy, who hasn't coached a single UT game, loses big early so you can replace him just b/c you're assuming he's going to be mediocre in Knoxville certainly sounds negative to me.
Where did I say I hope he loses big? I want him to go 12-0 next year.

I never imagined Pete Carroll would be leaving at this point. I thought we had Kiffin for 4 years.

I believed the same. And thought we would need him to stay a least 3 years to get us back on track.

He would have needed to stay that long just to get the talent level back where it needed to be.

So what? He was competing against the likes of Idaho and other garbage. It isn't like he took LA Tech squads into the SEC.

Really?? He played and beat Mississippi State, LSU twice(scared them this last year), Auburn, Ole Miss, and Kansas(which has been good the last few years). Point is, when given the chance, he stood up and played big time schools.

I think by 2011 UT could have won the conference. If I'm wrong about Dooley, UT could be back up faster than people expect. We don't have as many guys as we want right now, but this isn't some situation where we can't be good far at least 5 years.

Fulmer has 17 years under his belt before he was fired. It's not liked he sucked from the get go, like some of you guys think Dooley will. I REALLY hope that we do well, so that way some of you guy will change your tune. If your hoping we lose to fire someone you don't agree with hiring from the get go, then I'm sorry, but that's the worst kind of attitude to have.

I'll be interested to see if he does do well, and by some chance UVA came calling, if these same people would be raising h*ll if he even talked to them. These people complain when someone leaves our program and comes in...

I'm far more concerned about his conference record than his inability to beat LSU.

Making a move from UT to UVA isn't a lateral move, and I think Dooley knows that.

Are you concerned about the age of kid that played for him? He played older kids when they went to the bowl game and all true freshmen and sophomores this past year. I am not saying I think he's going to be the next Gen Neyland, but to already write his obituary is crazy. And furthermore, to ask if we should basically be pulling for him to lose is, well.......

Trust me. No one is asking for him to fail.

If he beats teams like LSU, yes. I'm not as impressed by beating MSU.

I still can't believe we are discussing his conference record at La. Tech, that means jack now. Dooley is past La. Tech now, let's at least give him some respect that he's now OUR coach. If he can win here, that's all that matters. Trying to measure a small conference with limited resources to that of the SEC and saying they can be compared is foolishness, IMO.

The name of this thread is WHAT??? Anyone defending the OP is asking is it better if Dooley wins or loses. Another thing on CDD's record @ La Tech, they were improving on offense and defense statistically with young players. It is the same thing we were arguing for Kiffin this past year. It's not that we are losing but HOW we are losing.

Let me say this. It doesn't bother me that some people are optimistic. It definitely doesn't me that almost everyone (me included) wants the worst for Kiffin. What does bother me is that our way of coping with a disastrous situation is to remember the past in a completely different way. 99 percent of people here, if asked this whether they wanted Dooley or Kiffin 2 months ago, would have said Kiffin, with the exception being people like posivol. Many of the same people now talk like Kiffin was killing the program and Dooley will be an excellent hire. Seems like the way many people are coping with this is to imagine the situation was different than it actually was. That seems like something out of Shutter Island.

Doesn't it mean more when they play the big schools close with less talent?? That means he can get his team up to play those teams. That's important to me.

Especially since the best we can hope for is a recruiting stalemate with at least four or five sec teams each year. It looks like that many will be in the top ten of recruiting year after year, we need to be in that group. The days of having superior talent every game except Florida year in and year out are over.

He said that taking the LA Tech job made him more qualified for this job, even if it hurt his resume (or something to that effect). I'm hoping he has a much better idea of what he is doing. He's going to need it.

We all bought in to the hype, which is what Kiffin offered. That's all he is, he is all about hype. He hasn't been a successful HC yet, and I hope he never is. That being said, his ability just to sell hype is amazing. Eventually though, if he doesn't produce with all the hype, he would be labeled a failure, which isn't too far from where he is now. He has a worse record as a HC than Dooley does.

Which means he was a HC and had to make decisions. Mack Brown was a HC at North Carolina, which really isn't anywhere close to relevant in football, and that worked out well for Texas.

You and the OP share the same closed minded assumption that mediocrity is the best UT can expect from CDD.

If this premise were true, Hamilton should already be gone. This premise is flawed, incorrect, and closed minded. Let this thread die.
