You just named one play in which he "almost" won us a game. Like I said, Pig has never impressed. Not saying he's had a great opportunity to, but he still hasn't. Never saw the "burst" people always talked about. Seemed slow, short, and had bad hands. JMO. I would still like to see him back, but if not then I don't think it's a big deal.
Are you really gonna argue that Pig Howard is/would be a better WR for UT this year than Von Pearson? If you are, then you can have it. I'm willing to bet VP gives us more than 390yds and a couple tds or so this year. Maybe I'm in the minority on this.
Go ahead KBvol, go ahead and tell me how much better Pearson is then pig...
Tell me all about how Pearson goes ham at practice...
Be happy to tell you why I believe Pearson is much better than Pig. But before I do, I want to state again that I love Pig and I hope that he can get his issues cleared up and return to play for the Vols.
The biggest reason I favor Pearson is because of his superior size and athletic ability to Pig. He's 6'3 195 and has been compared to Cordarrelle Patterson regarding his dynamic playmaking ability. Von obviously hasn't played in the SEC yet but his numbers in JUCO weren't just good, they were staggering. Hate to bring up CP again, but he made a pretty nice, quick transition out of JUCO to the SEC and I dare say most expect Von to do the same.... and he actually appears to be a better WR than CP was although not quite as dynamic running the ball.
Pig is 5'8, 185. We saw him produce at a pretty pedestrian level last year. Had he stayed on the team and practiced in the Spring I believe he would've gotten better and been a solid producer in the slot with better QB play and better WRs on the outside. But let's be honest here, he wasn't exactly Randy Moss last year. He had 44 catches for 388 yds and 3 tds....that's less than 9 yds per reception. And, when last year did he catch a short pass, a slant, etc., break a tackle or 2 and take it to the house from 60 yds? We both know the answer....never. I believe Pearson has a much greater potential to provide significant yards after catch, he has a much bigger/better catching radius and I think he'll make much better plays on the ball versus the better DBs in the conference.

Agree with everything you said, well said.
I do think you underestimate Pigs playmaking ability. He is a small little bowling ball and very slippery, see Georgia game last year. I also know he is tough, he got rocked every other play in 2012.
All this being said, I think that we are better off with Pig on the team, even if he doesn't start. He's a grinder that has the potential to be a leader. Best of luck, Pig.
Really not trying to underestimate Pig, just cataloging his performance from last year and what I observed of him as an athlete. I would love to have him in the slot rotation, but I believe Pearson will give us much better production based on his skill set....Pig has very good athleticism, Pearson's appears to border on elite.
He hasn't even started a game yet. I'm willing to bet if we have the same Qb play like we did last year he won't go over 390
Lol, DOBBS lost us that game.
