Pig Howard?

Not sure why you're hating on the guy who's actually at practice working with the team. Pig just was never impressive to me. I do hope he comes back though, more depth is always better.

Not sure why your hating on a kid who has personal issues either. Its not weed nor any other drug.

You just named one play in which he "almost" won us a game. Like I said, Pig has never impressed. Not saying he's had a great opportunity to, but he still hasn't. Never saw the "burst" people always talked about. Seemed slow, short, and had bad hands. JMO. I would still like to see him back, but if not then I don't think it's a big deal.

TD catch againt USC. That was a tough catch to make. Clutch.

Are you really gonna argue that Pig Howard is/would be a better WR for UT this year than Von Pearson? If you are, then you can have it. I'm willing to bet VP gives us more than 390yds and a couple tds or so this year. Maybe I'm in the minority on this.

He hasn't even started a game yet. I'm willing to bet if we have the same Qb play like we did last year he won't go over 390

Go ahead KBvol, go ahead and tell me how much better Pearson is then pig...

Tell me all about how Pearson goes ham at practice...

Be happy to tell you why I believe Pearson is much better than Pig. But before I do, I want to state again that I love Pig and I hope that he can get his issues cleared up and return to play for the Vols.

The biggest reason I favor Pearson is because of his superior size and athletic ability to Pig. He's 6'3 195 and has been compared to Cordarrelle Patterson regarding his dynamic playmaking ability. Von obviously hasn't played in the SEC yet but his numbers in JUCO weren't just good, they were staggering. Hate to bring up CP again, but he made a pretty nice, quick transition out of JUCO to the SEC and I dare say most expect Von to do the same.... and he actually appears to be a better WR than CP was although not quite as dynamic running the ball.

Pig is 5'8, 185. We saw him produce at a pretty pedestrian level last year. Had he stayed on the team and practiced in the Spring I believe he would've gotten better and been a solid producer in the slot with better QB play and better WRs on the outside. But let's be honest here, he wasn't exactly Randy Moss last year. He had 44 catches for 388 yds and 3 tds....that's less than 9 yds per reception. And, when last year did he catch a short pass, a slant, etc., break a tackle or 2 and take it to the house from 60 yds? We both know the answer....never. I believe Pearson has a much greater potential to provide significant yards after catch, he has a much bigger/better catching radius and I think he'll make much better plays on the ball versus the better DBs in the conference.

I agree, and must add that I believe Pearson will better compliment North. Pearson adds a dynamic that Pig can't match.

Agree with everything you said, well said.

I do think you underestimate Pigs playmaking ability. He is a small little bowling ball and very slippery, see Georgia game last year. I also know he is tough, he got rocked every other play in 2012.

All this being said, I think that we are better off with Pig on the team, even if he doesn't start. He's a grinder that has the potential to be a leader. Best of luck, Pig.

Really not trying to underestimate Pig, just cataloging his performance from last year and what I observed of him as an athlete. I would love to have him in the slot rotation, but I believe Pearson will give us much better production based on his skill set....Pig has very good athleticism, Pearson's appears to border on elite.

Having pig back for his experience and skill adds depth to the roster, and that is never a bad thing.

Damn. So you got Pearson with less than 35 yds per game receiving and no more than a td every 4th game? I think he'll have a single game this year where he scores 3 tds.

Part of the QB problem last year was our WRs inability to get separation....Pearson will create separation IMO....and there will be plenty of plays where the first DB doesn't drop him like a bag of dirt like all our WRs last year

Lol, DOBBS lost us that game.

That's curious. I distinctly remember Dobbs running the ball around right end for about a 15-20 yard td that put us up 17-7 late in the 4th qtr.....but the td was called back due to an unnecessary block in the back by Pig.

The entire offense was awful that night, passing game was the worst I've ever seen, surely Dobbs was a part of that. Complain about him all you want, but he scored what should've been the game winning td were it not for Pig's mistake.

Dobbs blocked the guy in the back, everyone saw it.

Lol, how many yards did he pass for led alone complete. That's right 53.

Because 53 total yards passing will not be the reason you lost at all.

It actually wasn't gonna be the reason we lost because we weren't gonna lose before Dobbs' td run was called back.
