The Overwhelmingly Negative Response on This Board

I've probably missed your take BPV. Do you consider this a great hire?

I think it's very solid, given our self imposed rules and the current situation that Pearl wrought. Martin aligns with me philosophically, so I believe he'll win if he can recruit. I think he'll recruit fine, but that's the crap shoot with all the mid major guys.

I find it hilarious, that the very people who scoffed at the idea of Tennessee as a basketball school as well as a football school, all of a sudden are experts on a coaching hire.

Folks, we landed a gem in Cuonzo Martin. Those who do follow basketball closely understand that we stole a coach from underneath Purdue's and Missouri's nose.

What the heck does "someone nobody knew" mean?

There I clarified myself...Whether this is a bad, good, or great hire only time will tell but the hire went as I said. Someone nobody was considering. Check my post I new we we're not getting any of the "name" coaches. It is not TN's MO.

Tells me that our fans know names and media drivel much better than they do basketball.

Or it could be because Tennessee is a program that doesn't have to hire up-and-comers. We are a $100 million a year program that should be hiring proven coaches instead of hopefuls.

-Bama hired Saban, a National Title Winning Coach.
-Florida hired Urban Meyer, a coach that took Utah to a BCS bowl.
-Kentucky hired Calipari, a 2-time* Final 4 coach.
- Georgia hired Fox, a .750% coach

When is Tennessee going to put it's stake in the ground and hire a proven coach? Enough of this "Lets get an up-and-comer and save some money". Dooley, Raliegh, and now Cuonzo.

Why can we spend hundreds of millions on new facilities, yet opening the pocket book for a proven coach is just unacceptable?

I hope this hire at least turns off the seasonal basketball fans to the Bball forum...there have been way too many people on here who know nothing about the game clogging up the threads. Hopefully they will all leave after today.

So people who don't agree, are 'seasonal fans'. I guess travelling to Columbia and Athens to support the team makes me 'seasonal'.

After what that unqualifed Shaka Smart's team did to Purdue not really much of a goal to shoot for...as for Missouri, they haven't been relevant in years. Can you say Norm Stewart, dead or alive?

sorry, but 61-41 at missouri st is all i need to know. they took the cheap rout and thats a fact.
This....this is why UT will never seriously contend in BB....they did excatly what you said they took the CHEAP way out....Hammy Sucks,he is a piss poor excuse for AD & should be shown the door!

The fact of all of this is, this guy wasn't on anyone's radar. For any poster on here to claim superior knowledge of basketball over another strictly over their displeasure over the hire is silly. I don't remember anyone in here touting this guy before today as a great coach and someone we should look at. This coach may or may not work out, and we won't know for awhile, but the clear negative reaction to this hire should be more of positive. As Vol fans, we feel that Tennessee Basketball is a top level coaching job and we should have gotten a more proven coach.

These comments never get old. I love it!!

Good point, I don't ever remember his name coming of it before it was announced.

Good post. Certain folks on here can hate all they want but everybody else should remain silent.

Hard to argue some of that but honestly chances of us getting a big name coach right now were almost zero. Let's face it we are going to be under a microscope like none other for a while and there's not to many coaches want to deal with that. Most big time coaches walk a thin line as it is, they don't want the line to be invisible. Same was true with the last football hire. That said it does seem like Hamilton thinks if he hire's an "underdog" canidate and they do good it will make him look smarter.
