Or it could be because Tennessee is a program that doesn't have to hire up-and-comers. We are a $100 million a year program that should be hiring proven coaches instead of hopefuls.
-Bama hired Saban, a National Title Winning Coach.
-Florida hired Urban Meyer, a coach that took Utah to a BCS bowl.
-Kentucky hired Calipari, a 2-time* Final 4 coach.
- Georgia hired Fox, a .750% coach
When is Tennessee going to put it's stake in the ground and hire a proven coach? Enough of this "Lets get an up-and-comer and save some money". Dooley, Raliegh, and now Cuonzo.
Hard to argue some of that but honestly chances of us getting a big name coach right now were almost zero. Let's face it we are going to be under a microscope like none other for a while and there's not to many coaches want to deal with that. Most big time coaches walk a thin line as it is, they don't want the line to be invisible. Same was true with the last football hire. That said it does seem like Hamilton thinks if he hire's an "underdog" canidate and they do good it will make him look smarter.
